Some people may be surprised to learn that this facial feature is more important than the eyes and mouth when it comes to a youthful appearance – the brow. Eyebrows play an essential role in defining and framing the face. The gentle counterbalance of the arch in the brow and the shape of the jawline all work together to accentuate the face.

During aging, due to a lack of elasticity in the skin and constant movement of forehead muscles, brows can begin to look creased, furrowed, and tired. People with dropping or heavy brows begin to look tired, angry, and grumpy. If you want a more youthful, lively look, a brow lift might be exactly what you need.

At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, we offer brow lifts with stunning results. If you are considering treatment options, there are three things to know about brow lifts and mini brow lifts to ensure your desired aesthetic goals.

What Is A Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that repositions your forehead, resulting in a lift of the eyebrows and a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles. A brow lift can also address other periorbital signs of aging, like excess sagging skin and permanent lines between the eyes caused by using the glabella, a strong muscle that is responsible for frown or scowl lines.

Over time, even if you are happy and rested, having horizontal lines on the forehead and vertical lines between the eyes can make you look older and give off the wrong emotional expression in social settings. This is why patients at Buckhead Plastic Surgery opt for a brow lift. It permanently improves the forehead by making it look smooth and supple and repositions the eyebrows for a lifted, fresh-faced look.

As with most cosmetic procedures, different types of brow lifts address different aesthetic goals. Plus, since everyone has a unique facial anatomy, certain procedures work better for certain people. Amazing brow lift results depend on meticulous attention to detail with the technical portion of the procedure, as well as Dr. Larsen’s artistic touch to create the balanced facial features you desire.

One of the three things to know about brow lifts and mini brow lifts is the techniques available to you.

3 Types of Brow Lifts and Mini Brow Lifts

  • Coronal Brow Lift
  • Endoscopic Brow Lift
  • Limited Incision or Temporal Brow Lift

Coronal Brow Lift

At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, Dr. Alan Larsen is skilled in various techniques for brow lifts and mini brow lifts. However, this technique is the industry standard for this procedure and yields the most impressive and lasting results.

One thing to know about this brow lift procedure is it removes the excess skin from the forehead and eyebrows without shifting the hairline. Another benefit of the coronal brow lift is it requires one long incision made in front of the hairline that runs from ear to ear. This incision can be well-hidden as part of the natural hairline.

With just one incision, Dr. Larsen can remove excess skin and reposition the remaining brow and glabellar muscles for a more flattering, youthful appearance. He can also make small adjustments to create a smoother forehead and browline by removing excess fat and tissue.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is also known as a mini brow lift. It is called a “mini” brow lift because it is less invasive than other brow lift procedures. While it is less invasive, we do not encourage all patients to get mini brow lifts because it does not provide optimal results.

The thing to know about a mini brow lift is it shifts the hairline back, so it is only ideal for individuals with a low hairline. In an endoscopic brow lift, small incisions are made just behind the hairline, then muscles are repositioned, and the forehead tissue is lifted.

Temporal or Limited Incision Brow Lift

This procedure is similar to an endoscopic brow lift but is slightly more invasive because larger incisions are made above each temple and behind the hairline.

During the procedure, Dr. Larsen will then reposition the tissues of the outer brow area through the upper incisions (hairline) and smooth out the worrisome lines furrowed between the eyebrows using the incisions made through the upper eyelid (temples).

Recovery After Brow Lift

Another one of the three things to know about brow lifts and mini brow lifts is there is a recovery to consider that will last 3-4 weeks. Downtime is a concern of patients having a brow lift, especially with younger patients.

Immediately following surgery, your forehead, eyes, and temporal areas will be swollen. For the first two days, specialized ice packs will be placed on your forehead 24 hours a day to relieve the swelling and discomfort. The ice is applied for the first 48 hours followed by warm compresses.

Keeping your head elevated with no movement helps promote a speedy recovery for most patients. During the healing process, your forehead and eyes will feel tight for the first week or two. Meanwhile, healing will continue for quite some time. It is not uncommon for mild swelling and small lumps and bumps to take 1-2 months or more to resolve. After one month, you should see better results, and after three months, you should see great results.

The BPS Guide to Facelifts & Neck Lifts

A Non-Surgical Brow Lift

The third thing to know about brow lift and mini brow lifts is you can explore a non-surgical option with injectables like Botox. This option is ideal for smoothing out wrinkles on your forehead and improving the look of aging and tiredness in the face. The injections can be done between the eyes to ease the glabella and at the corner of the eyebrows, providing a more alert-looking appearance. Results are temporary and not nearly as dramatic as a brow lift.

When it comes to looking youthful, trim, and fit, most people desire a flat stomach that enhances their silhouette. As we age, even with diet and exercise, it can be hard to maintain a flat stomach. As fat cells increase in size and volume with time, getting rid of stubborn fat in the abdominal area can be extremely frustrating. In some cases, liposuction is the best solution to the tummy of your dreams.

At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, we treat many patients with this aesthetic procedure with stunning results. Before your journey with liposuction, it is important to fully understand how it works and if you are a good candidate. There are some common misconceptions about it, so here are 5 things to know about stomach liposuction.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a tried and true surgical procedure that breaks down and removes fat from parts of your body. Most patients get liposuction in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise like the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, chin or neck. Liposuction removes these isolated pockets of fat with a microcannula inserted into the treatment area. This process loosens the fat cells so they can gently be suctioned away.

Some liposuction techniques use ultrasound, radiofrequency, or laser energy to melt the fat first for easier elimination. Tumescent liposuction is when your surgeon injects a sterile solution into the area where the fat is to be removed. It may consist of saline, lidocaine and epinephrine. This specific kind of solution makes it easier to suction the fat with less blood loss and pain.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) uses sound wave energy under your skin to rupture the cell walls of the fat. This liquefies the fat so it can be suctioned out. Laser-assisted liposuction, or SmartLipo, uses a laser to produce a burst of energy to melt the fat.

Liposuction Is Not a Weight Loss Surgery

One of the misnomers about liposuction is that it is a surgery used for weight loss. While liposuction can remove small pockets of fat, it is a cosmetic surgery intended for a slimmer aesthetic. Liposuction helps reshape your body by contouring it. In the case of stomach liposuction, if diet and exercise are not providing the desired result, liposuction may help achieve that goal.

However, there are other factors to consider, like the type of fat you are dealing with (subcutaneous fat or visceral fat), your skin’s elasticity, and your weight fluctuations or potential fluctuations. Even if you are an ideal candidate for stomach liposuction, the procedure does not prevent you from gaining back weight in your stomach or gaining weight overall. It is not a “quick fix” that lasts indefinitely, because it requires maintenance for lasting results.

Liposuction Does Not Get Rid of Cellulite

While liposuction can remove pockets of fatty tissue, it cannot treat the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is actually caused by subcutaneous fat pushing against connective tissue bands, which then cause deformations (dimples) in the skin. Since liposuction only removes soft fat tissue, the fat pushing against the fibrous bands is not affected.

This is one of the important ‘5 things to know about stomach liposuction’ because liposuction can actually worsen the appearance of cellulite in some cases, making the dimpling more obvious. However, adding a laser treatment to liposuction may help get rid of cellulite.

The mommy makeover surgery that Dr. Alan N Larsen suggested for his patient, to achieve her ultimate goals consisted of a Breast Aug, a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction to her belly & flanks.

Liposuction Does Not Reduce Sagging Skin

Another important thing to know about liposuction is it only removes fat, not sagging skin. As you age, the amount of collagen your body produces decreases, which results in less skin elasticity. Sagging skin may not be completely treated through liposuction. To achieve your desired results, you may need a skin tightening procedure to address sagging skin if liposuction cannot fix the area.

For some, liposuction needs to be combined with either a tummy tuck or a laser contouring procedure for the abs of your dreams.

Liposuction and Tummy Tucks Are Different Procedures

A common misconception about stomach liposuction, as explained above, is what the realistic results will look like. For some patients, by removing small pockets of fatty tissue, they will achieve the sleek, slim silhouette they desire with more defined ab muscles. But for patients with excessive sagging skin, they might be envisioning results from a tummy tuck, not stomach liposuction.

That’s why one of the ‘5 things to know about stomach liposuction’ is it does not necessarily give you the transformative results a tummy tuck provides. A tummy tuck is ideal for people who want to flatten the area above and below the belly button. During this procedure, your surgeon will tighten the muscles and remove excess skin. While liposuction can be used during a tummy tuck to aid in contouring your physique, the removal of excess, sagging skin and tissue is only performed during a tummy tuck.

You Can Still Gain Weight Back After Liposuction

One of the most important things to know about stomach liposuction is there is still required maintenance after the surgery and recovery. After stomach liposuction, your body will have about 70% less fatty deposits in the abdominal area. But you can still gain weight, and if you do, your body will store the same amount of fat in the same places it usually does. This means if you were to gain weight, your stomach would be smaller than it would be without the surgery, but it can still gain back fatty tissue.

This is why ideal candidates for stomach liposuction already follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. They are within 30% of their ideal weight and have maintained that weight for the last 1-2 years. Plus, they have firm elastic skin and good muscle tone. All of these things contribute to achieving fantastic results for beautiful, contoured abs.

Having a well-shaped backside is something both men and women desire for a youthful, fit physique. Over the years, the Brazilian Butt Lift has become a popular option for healthy patients who cannot achieve the round buttocks they want with diet and exercise alone. At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, we are pleased to offer this procedure with amazing results. In fact, when patients ask us how long does a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) last, we are pleased to tell them results from a BBL can last for many years.

What Is A Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a procedure that improves or augments the appearance of your buttocks for a rounder overall look. It also removes fat from other parts of your body with liposuction. The fat removed is used to add volume to your buttocks. Unlike a facelift or a back lift, a Brazilian Butt Lift does not improve an excess of sagging skin. The fat transfer procedure enhances your size and shape, giving you a fuller, curvier silhouette.

What Is the Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure?

While learning about this procedure, patients at Buckhead Plastic Surgery are excited to hear about how long a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) lasts. Some cosmetic procedures require multiple sessions to achieve desired results, but the Brazilian Butt Lift only requires one surgery that can last for many years. The effectiveness of the BBL is due to the technique Dr. Alan Larsen uses and his ability to customize the BBL procedure for your body.

Like most cosmetic procedures, the Brazilian Butt Lift starts with anesthesia. Then Dr. Larsen will begin extracting donor fat cells using liposuction. The “donor” fat he uses is typically collected from areas of your body that have some excess fat like the lower portion of the back, the hips, or the area below the buttocks. If more fat is needed to be grafted back into the buttocks, other areas may also be liposuctioned

By liposuctioning the hips, lower back, and the area below the buttocks, Dr. Larsen can contour your body which helps to accentuate the buttocks further and enhance your Brazilian Butt Lift results. The combination of slimming some curves by removing fat and adding that fat into the buttocks for increased volume, size, and firmness transforms your overall look. After recovery, our BBL patients are eager to try on jeans and pants to see their newly enhanced shape.

BBL Before & After Results, By Alan N. Larsen, MD

What Is The Recovery Like For A BBL?

At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, we tell our patients that the recovery is moderate for most of them. When patients are excited about how long a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) lasts, we encourage them to fully participate in the healing process because this helps ensure lasting BBL results. Following the recovery guidelines is the final step towards a fuller, well-shaped backside.

During the first part of recovery, your backside will be tender and in the areas where liposuction was performed, you may also experience some discomfort and swelling. We want you to be as comfortable as possible during this time, so Dr. Larsen can prescribe pain medications to ease you through the process.

For optimal results that ensure your Brazilian Butt Lift (BLL) lasts for many years, it is important not to lie or sit on your buttocks for six to eight weeks after the procedure. During this time, the fat transferred to its new location is seeking a blood supply needed to grow and thrive. The act of pressure on your backside from sitting will interfere with this process. If blood is not properly supplied to the new fat cells, they will not survive, and you may lose desired results.

About six months after the procedure, the results are considered final. This means any residual swelling has subsided, and your body has had a chance to heal any incisions. The fat transfer will have had ample time to adjust to its new environment. The results at this time are expected to last for many years, and patients are happy to hear how long a Brazilian Butt Lift lasts, especially as they begin to try on clothes to see their new, curvier shape.

Of course, things like extreme weight fluctuations can affect your surgical results. A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) will last the longest if a healthy diet with nutrient-rich foods is maintained. Exercising and avoiding smoking are also important factors to consider after a BBL for optimal and lasting results.

Am I A Good Candidate for BBL?

If a well-rounded backside is something you desire for a more athletic silhouette, a Brazilian Butt Lift at Buckhead Plastic Surgery might be exactly what you want. Being a good candidate for a BBL helps to ensure ideal results that last for years.

A good candidate is a healthy non-smoker who follows a healthy diet and exercise regimen. The average patient is a female ranging from 20-35 years old. In some cases, men opt for a BBL as well. It is normal to have sagging below the buttocks, but the buttocks themselves need to be in good condition with good elasticity. Dr. Larsen will be able to evaluate your skin to determine if the fat transfer and liposuction will deliver your desired results. In some instances, a surgical butt lift may be needed after a Brazilian Butt Lift. This could be required to tighten the skin and lift the buttocks if the skin in the buttocks area is exceptionally loose.

Why Should I Choose Buckhead Plastic Surgery for My Brazilian Butt Lift?

Dr. Larsen is a double board-certified plastic surgeon with a decorated career working with some of the most elite surgeons in the world. He has impressive surgical skills and an excellent reputation with his patients. He is known not only for his technical skills but also for his compassion. What is an arm lift?

An arm lift is a surgical procedure performed to cosmetically improve the appearance of the under portion of your upper arms. This procedure, also known as Brachioplasty, removes excess skin and fat between the armpit and the elbow. The remaining skin is redraped over the newly contoured arm to create a toned look.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is fat removal surgery. Arm liposuction is a less invasive alternative to an arm lift. It is typically performed to remove excess fat from those hard-to-lose areas of the upper arm. Arm liposuction slips the contours of the arm and is ideal for patients with stubborn areas of localized fat that do not respond to diet and exercise and are not more than 10-15 pounds overweight. There are several different types of liposuction and even fat transfer liposuction. When you schedule your consultation with Dr. Larsen, he will examine your arms and identify which course of action is best for you. YOu’ll be able to ask any questions you might have and learn about other treatments you might like.

Identifying the problem

During your consultation, Dr. Larsen will assess your arms and determine the underlying cause of your upper arm issues. The root cause of the problem can be excess fat, excess skin, or both. But the answers will determine the best treatment for your body.

As we age, two essential proteins from our skin are reduced, Elastin and collagen. As a result, the firmness and elasticity of our skin gradually reduce. The reduction of these proteins leads to sagging skin. A few factors contribute to sagging skin, including poor nutrition, excessive intake of alcohol and cigarette smoking, or even excessive sun exposure. It’s also common for your skin to sag after sudden and rapid weight loss. There is also a rare medical condition known as granulomatous slack skin, resulting in excess sagging skin around the arms. If sagging skin is an issue, it requires different treatment than just hard to lose fat. Dr. Larsen is an expert and will help you develop the right treatment plan. We want you to reach your optimal results.

Which one is right for me?

Now we’ve broken down the procedures and the causes; you might be wondering which one is right for me? Patients with excess skin and fat will get the best results from an arm lift. When you have much excess skin and fat, liposuction alone may result in residual sagging skin. So an arm lift is the best solution. One downside of an arm lift is the possibility of a surgical scar. Depending on your surgery, a scar can range from the armpit to the elbow. However, your surgeon can attempt to hide the scar by placing it on the inner aspect of the arm. If you have experienced massive weight loss in a short period (such as after weight loss surgery), it is recommended that you have a stabilized weight over three months before you schedule an arm lift surgery.

Before and After Photo Gallery | Liposuction | Buckhead Plastic Surgery | Alan N. Larsen, MD | Double Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon | Atlanta GA

Liposuction may be enough if your skin is taught and excess fat is the only issue. Liposuction essentially drains the area of excess fat, leaving some excess skin behind. However, if you are young and have good skin elastin, the skin has an excellent chance of tightening and conforming to the new underlying arm.

If you have a minimal amount of fat to lose, many patients consider BeautiFill as an option. In addition, BeautiFill can be used as a minimally invasive liposuction or fat transfer service. Call our office today to find out more about these options or schedule your consultation

Is there a non-surgical option?

Unfortunately, there isn’t an effective non-surgical treatment for sagging arms. Although working out and living a healthy lifestyle can help, the upper arms are dynamic areas that change when the shoulder joints move. That makes it difficult for non-surgical skin tightening procedures to be highly effective in this area. The best noninvasive way to tone upper arms if your skin is sagging is to build muscle and lose weight through diet and exercise. However, even with a healthy diet and regular exercise, this can be an area where stubborn fat is hard to lose. Many patients who have lost a significant amount of weight have also found that excess skin is unflattering and challenging. If you’ve made these changes and haven’t seen the results you want, surgery might be your best option. Call us today to set up a consultation to determine what procedure is right for you.

During your consultation, Dr. Larsen and his staff will help you achieve your goals. He will examine the areas you’d like to improve and provide you with a treatment plan for your optimal results. Call us today to set up your free consultation

…From the Consultation to the Final Result

In this video series, called In the OR, Realself Magazine follows patients over the course of their plastic surgery journey—from the initial consultation with their surgeon to the operating room on the day of their procedure to the follow-up appointment where their results are revealed. In this installment, Realself takes you into our OR at Chastain Surgery Center during a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) using the BeautiFill™ Fat Transfer & Liposuction System.

The BBL is a procedure in which a surgeon removes unwanted fat from other areas of the body, then injects that fat into the buttocks and hips for a fuller, rounder shape. It’s one of the most researched and reviewed procedures on RealSelf.

Meet Courtney, a 32-year-old mother of two whose busy career has kept her from exercising as often as she’d like. She’s looking to remove fat from areas where she’s gained weight and enhance her buttocks. In this episode, Courtney consults with Dr. Alan N. Larsen, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Atlanta.

It’s the day of Courtney’s BBL surgery. In episode two, Dr. Larsen gives an intimate look into what actually happens during liposuction and fat transfer.

Alan N Larsen, MD, Double Board Plastic Surgeon at Buckhead Plastic Surgery

On the final episode, Courtney describes what recovery was like in the initial days post-op, checks in with Dr. Larsen, and reveals her final results.

We all want to start the year looking and feeling our best. It’s so common for New Year’s resolutions to involve body transformations, whether you want to get in better shape or turn back the clock Buckhead Plastic Surgery and LUX Med Spa are ready to partner with you to help you feel like the most confident version of yourself!

In this post, we’re going to find out more about our most commonly requested services for the best surgical and non-surgical procedures to boost your confidence as you evaluate your cosmetic goals this year.

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the oldest and most common cosmetic surgeries preformed. Contrary to popular belief this body contouring surgery is not a weight loss treatment or a “quick fix” but it will highlight the hard work you’ve been putting in at the gym. Liposuction is most effective on stubborn pockets of fat that remain even when you’re eating a healthy diet and living a healthy lifestyle.

Alan N Larsen, MD Chastain Family of Brands and Medical Director at LUX Med Spa

Liposuction can be a great way to slim down those problem areas so you can enjoy the figure you’ve been working toward. This is one of the most confidence boosting procedures because many people find that a little extra help on contouring those problem areas gives them even greater motivation to stick to their fitness resolutions long term.

BeautifFill Fat Transfer

If you are interested in minor liposuction but also have areas of your body you’d like to enhance, BeautiFill might be for you. This procedure still involves liposuction but in a way that is minimally invasive and offers a quicker recovery time than traditional lipo. BeautiFill also allows your surgeon to redeposit fat from a donor area of your body to another area you’d like to enhance, many patients opt for this procedure over a Brazilian Butt Lift or Breast Augmentation. Because of the high survival rate of the fat tissue that is removed, your surgeon can very accurately predict the final results. The results from this procedure aren’t going to be as drastic as a Brazilian Butt Lift or a full Breast Augmentation, but it’s an excellent and minimally invasive surgery that can enhance many areas of the body in one procedure.

Non-Surgical Body Contouring

Many people would like to see slight changes in the contours of their body but aren’t quite ready to opt for surgery. Acent Prime is a great non-surgical option for those wanting to shed a few pounds and see lax skin tightened.

Accent Prime™ skin tightening, body contouring fast painless easy at Buckhead Plastic Surgery Atlanta GA

Accent Prime is a total body contouring skin renewal system. Not only can it eliminate pockets of stubborn fat, it can also tighten lax skin. Accent Prime is completely non-invasive and requires no downtime. If you’ve been wanting to speed up your results from the gym, and have a BMI under 30 Accent Prime is an excellent option to consider!

Liquid Lift

Many patients are interested in the effects of a facelift but aren’t interested in the invasive surgery or the lengthy recovery time, if that sounds like you this might be the year for you to try the liquid lift! We can use safe and effective injectables like Botox and Dysport to smooth away lines and wrinkles with very natural looking results.

Liquid Lift | Buckhead Plastic Surgery - Northeast Atlanta

By preventing certain muscles from contracting, these injections can actually prevent new wrinkles from forming. In addition to this injectable fillers such as Juvaderm and Restylane you can restore volume to areas of your face that have thinned over the years such as the lips and the delicate skin around the eyes.

Eyelid Surgery

Believe it or not eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is fantastic for turning back the clock when it comes to your appearance. This surgery can make you look more awake and aware. As we age it’s so common for eyelids to droop or accumulate puffy looking bags below our eyes. Because the skin around the eyes is so delicate it’s hard to address these issues with cosmetic products. Surgery can remove the excess skin and reverse the signs of aging in the eyes and create a more open and bright expression.

At Buckhead Plastic Surgery we want 2022 to be the year of YOU! We are certain this year is going to be your best year yet, and we want to partner with you to help you achieve all your aesthetic goals. If you’re ready to give your confidence a boost, or to turn back the hands of time, give us a call today. When you set up your free consultation we will answer any questions you have, present you with all the possible options, and design a custom treatment plan just for you. You’re going to love your results, call us today at 404.367.9005 and see what a difference Buckhead Plastic Surgery can make in your life.

What is a fat transfer?

Fat transfer is becoming one of the most commonly requested services from our clients. The concept is simple, we remove fat from one area of your body and transfer it to another area.

Although fat transfer procedures have been around for years, modern technology has improved the accuracy and predictability of fat transfer services. As a result, we can now offer this popular service with minimal downtime and highly reliable results.

Patients love BeautiFill because of the dramatic results available. Dr. Larsen can enhance your facial or body contours while also allowing the removal of additional fat and further contouring, all while thermally tightening the skin in the donor area. As a result, BeautiFill provides for a smoother and easier recovery than traditional liposuction, with the added benefit of highly viable fat transfers to areas you’d like to enhance. In addition, BeautiFill can use this combination of procedures to enhance or even fully rejuvenate the face or body if it loses volume and excess skin.

Why is fall the best time of year for a fat transfer?

Traditionally winter is the most common time for patients to schedule cosmetic procedures. However, it can be hard to find your optimal time to schedule your procedure due to this popular time. By scheduling your fat transfer in the fall, you can gain all the benefits of a winter procedure. Such as having plenty of time to recover before summer fully, the opportunity to conceal treated areas with flattering fall fashions, and still enjoying plenty of time to recover before the busy holiday season. Imagine all the pictures you’ll take in December and January with colleges, friends, and families; wouldn’t you like to look your very best in those? Call us today for a free consultation to see if BeautiFill is right for you.

What kind of fat transfer services do you offer?Beautifill Fat Transfer Lipo System by Alma Lasers at Buckhead Plastic Surgery Alan N Larsen, MD in Atlanta GA

We are proud to offer BeautiFill to our patients. BeautiFill is a new FDA-approved procedure produced by Alma Lasers. It is laser-based liposuction different from any other liposuction procedure available on the market. The BeautiFill system is far superior to all previous methods of fat transfer. BeautiFill is a device that combines laser, gentle liposuction, and processing of fat cells in one step. This process creates fat cells with an extraordinary vitality for natural aesthetic contouring. In addition, BeautiFill can use fat from a donor area on your body to naturally smooth all face, hands, and body areas. It can even rejuvenate depressed scars, naturally.

Can I have it removed without transferring it?

Yes! Although most patients prefer to use BeautiFill as a fat transfer service, it’s possible to use it as an alternative to liposuction. With BeautiFill, our patients will benefit from thermal tightening of the skin as the fat is removed. This can minimize the effects of cellulite and leave smooth, taut skin behind.

What are the most common areas for fat transfers?

Anybody or facial area that has lost the desired volume can be restored with BeautiFill. For facial treatments, your cells can be injected at the temples, chin, beneath the eyes, used for cheek enhancement, or to fill in laugh lines or other facial areas as needed. For body treatments, BeautiFill can give more significant regions, including the buttocks, a rounded lift. Additionally,  breasts can be enhanced, although the results will be more subtle than a full augmentation. Surprisingly, one of the most common areas patients want to treat is the hands, as they are one of the first areas of the body to show age apart from the face. With BeautiFill, they can be restored to a more youthful appearance.

Historically fat transfer procedures are what they sound like, removing fat from one area of the body and grafting it to another area. Until now, fat transfer treatments have been risky. They typically involve a time-consuming extraction process, with higher risk, more trauma, and unreliable results. Before developing high-fat vitality transfers offered through BeautiFill, fat cells were permanently damaged during the removal process. Because that process was so traumatic for the body to recover from, it yielded unpredictable results. Meaning doctors couldn’t predict fat reabsorption rates, and it was common for patients to lose most of the fat transferred in the first year. With the unpredictable nature, many patients were left with the results of being overfilled, underfilled, or left with fat in areas where they didn’t want it.

Now the BeautiFill system has revolutionized the industry. Thanks to this groundbreaking technology, the removed fat is more uniform, undamaged, and has a much higher survival rate. Meaning that the days of overfilling and unpredictable results are a thing of the past. Additionally, the BeautiFill system introduced a new process that simultaneously uses a laser to break down fat while gently suctioning it out to process it rapidly. This system is streamlined to efficiently use thermal energy to tighten the skin where the fat cells have been removed so that there is no sagging once the fat is removed.

How does Beautifill work?

BeautiFill is a new development in laser technology. The process gently heats the tissue surrounding fat cells at the donor site. (This varies from patient to patient, common areas include the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or love handles.) This heating allows more fat to be removed from the tissue. This process also removes any oil, blood, or fibrous tissue from the harvested fat. While the idea might be gruesome to think about, it’s an important technical step that significantly improves the survival of the transferred fat tissue. The results from this process are small uniform fat cells with a higher rate of viability, which has been unachievable until now.

BeautiFill Before and After Results

What areas can you get fat transferred to?

The beauty of BeautiFill is that it can be used on basically any area of the body or face. For facial treatments, your cells can be injected at the temples, chin, beneath the eyes, used for cheek enhancement, or to fill in laugh lines or other facial areas as needed. For body treatments, more extensive areas, including the buttocks, can be given a rounded lift. Additionally, breasts can be enhanced, although the results will be more subtle than a full augmentation. Surprisingly, one of the most common areas patients wants to be treated is the hands, as they are one of the first areas of the body to show age apart from the face. With BeautiFill, they can be restored to a more youthful appearance. Here is a closer look at how long fat transfers work in commonly treated areas:

Beautifill Fat Transfer Lipo System by Alma Lasers at Buckhead Plastic Surgery Alan N Larsen, MD in Atlanta GA

Breast

Just like any fat transfer procedure, some of the fat that is extracted will not survive. This typically happens within the first few days and will be absorbed by the body in the first few weeks. However, it’s much easier to predict how much fat will survive thanks to developing technologies, making results more predictable. In general, patients can expect about 70 – 80 percent of the transferred fat cells to survive, though this can vary. It is essential to follow your surgeon’s guidelines carefully to ensure the best chance for fat cell survival. This includes sleeping on your back for at least six weeks and avoiding direct pressure to the breasts, which could cause the fat cells to die.

Once the transferred fat cells have established themselves with new blood vessels, they should be considered viable indefinitely, making the final results of your procedure permanent once the healing process is complete. However, it should be noted that the size of fat cells can change over time, particularly with a significant weight fluctuation. This is why patients are typically advised to avoid a fat transfer to the breasts until they have reached a healthy, stable weight. In addition, significant weight gains or losses such as pregnancy can compromise the long-term results.

Buttocks

Buttock augmentation with fat grafting requires several weeks of recovery, but the amount of fat that survives is primarily related to your post-surgical care. Meaning, your actions during the first three weeks will directly impact your butt lift results. Make sure you follow all of our plastic surgeon’s instructions while you heal and avoid long sessions of sitting, squatting, or stretching. In addition, you’ll want to stay away from any strenuous activities to prevent putting pressure on the area.

With new technology like BeautiFill, most of the fat will survive the transfer. Then during the initial three or four days following your Brazilian Butt Lift, your body will supply blood to the grafted fat, providing nutrients to ensure maximum fat survival. Most of the transferred fat will merge with the surrounding tissues, but your body will naturally absorb some of the fat up to six weeks after your procedure. The absorption is natural and unavoidable. The fat that survives is permanent, just like the existing fatty tissues in your buttocks. Maintaining your look will be dependent on living a healthy lifestyle.

Hips

People often wonder about the length of time they can enjoy the results of a fat transfer to the hips. It’s important to understand that all living tissue needs a blood supply that carries oxygen to survive. Although with new technology like BeautiFill, there is a higher survival rate of fat during the transfer process, final results are dependent on the environment they are transferred to. As new circulation forms, and those fat cells will continue to survive in their new environment. It’s important to note that there is always some resorption of fat after a transfer. With BeautiFill, that percentage is lower than with traditional methods. However, it’s still recommended that patients rest and avoid pressure to this area 4-6 weeks after the fat transfer. Once the transfer and healing period is complete, many people enjoy the results of a fat transfer surgery to the hips for many years, provided they maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Beautifill Fat Transfer Lipo System by Alma Lasers at Buckhead Plastic Surgery Alan N Larsen, MD in Atlanta GA

Face

As mentioned above, facial fat transfers are permanent, so the results in the face will be noticeable for several years. However, a fat transfer surgery does not protect you from future aging, and as we age, we often lose fat in the face. So while a fat transfer can minimize your current signs of aging, patients should expect to see results diminish slightly over time.

Why should I work with Buckhead Plastic Surgery for my fat transfer procedure?

We know this is a lot of information, but we hoped it helped better educate you on the long-term benefits of fat transfer surgery in Atlanta. Deciding to undergo a cosmetic procedure is a big decision. We hope this gave you some confidence to understand this procedure better.

Choosing a plastic surgeon can be intimidating. Dr. Larsen is a double board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience and many 5 star reviews for fat transfer procedures. If you have more questions or would like to discuss this procedure as an option, give us a call. We would love the opportunity to talk with you more about fat transfer surgery and non-surgical options. To learn more, schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
