Your eyes can tell a lot about you – including how old you are. In some cases, wrinkling, puffiness, or sagging of the eyelids can make you appear much older than you actually are. Today, men and women alike are realizing eye lift surgery can make a dramatic difference in their appearance, taking years off of their look and restoring their self-confidence.

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, is the surgical enhancement of eyelids. It can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids to aesthetically improve the look of the eyelid or to repair functional issues on the eyelid. At Buckhead Plastic Surgery, our patients love the results because it rejuvenates the area surrounding your eyes for a tighter, firmer and more youthful look.

Since the bleph is a serious procedure, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of eye lift surgery.

How Does Eye Lift Surgery Improve The Eyes

Before exploring the pros and cons of eye lift surgery, it is important to know how this procedure can correct or treat your eye concerns and issues. A blepharoplasty can provide a variety of benefits including:

  • Loose skin that disrupts the natural contour of the upper lid (sometimes impairing vision)
  • Fat deposits under the eye that give an appearance of puffiness
  • Under eye bags
  • Drooping lower lids that reveal white below the iris
  • Excess skin and wrinkles of the lower lid

The Pros of Eye Lift Surgery

Improved Appearance

Blepharoplasty can improve the appearance of droopy, sagging, or puffy eyelids, making you look younger, more rested and more alert.

Increased Self-Confidence

Many people feel self-conscious about their sagging eyelids and bags under their eyes. By correcting these issues, blepharoplasty can increase self-confidence and self-esteem.

Improved Vision

In some cases, sagging eyelids can interfere with vision. By removing the excess skin and fat, blepharoplasty can improve vision and quality of life.

Long-Lasting Results

While the results of eye lift surgery are not permanent, they can last for many years. This means patients can enjoy the pros of eye lift surgery for a long time without additional procedures.

Our patient struggled with creasing and darkening under her eyes that she felt aged her appearance. It was her wish to refresh her face, brighten her expression and achieve a lifted appearance to her cheeks. In this video, Double Board Plastic Surgeon, Alan N Larsen, MD performs eyelid surgery, aka – a lower blepharoplasty procedure – to make his patient’s wishes a reality.

The Cons of Eye Lift Surgery

Risk of Complications

Like any surgery, blepharoplasty carries risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, and anesthesia-related complications.

Recovery Time

Recovery from blepharoplasty can take several weeks, during which time you may experience swelling, bruising and discomfort.

Unrealistic Expectations

Some people may have unrealistic expectations about what blepharoplasty can achieve. It is important to have a realistic understanding of the potential results and limitations of the procedure.

Possible Asymmetry

There is a small risk of asymmetry in the eyelids after surgery, which can require further corrective procedures.

What Happens During Eye Lift Surgery?

Your eyelid surgery at Buckhead Plastic Surgery starts with a consultation, so Dr. Alan Larsen understands your concerns and your aesthetic goals. Together you will discuss the procedure, the recovery and the intended results.

Eyelid surgery is performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Dr. Larsen is extremely intentional and talented in placing incisions to reduce scarring, so it will be naturally hidden by the eyelid structure. In fact, most patients do not see any scars following this procedure, which is one of the pros of eye lift surgery performed at Buckhead Plastic Surgery.

For surgeries regarding the upper eyelid, incisions are made along the natural crease above the eye. After the incision is made, excess skin is removed and fat deposits are repositioned or removed and the muscles are tightened for a youthful, more alert look.

For surgeries correcting issues of the lower eyelid, an incision is usually made just below the lash line. Following the incision, a similar procedure is done where fat deposits are removed or repositioned and excess skin is removed.

At times a specific procedure called a transjunctional incision may be used. This procedure is an alternative technique that is sometimes used to correct under-eye conditions. Most commonly when fat deposits need to be removed or repositioned but no skin needs to be removed. Dr. Larsen will present the best surgical or non-surgical options for you to meet your goals.

For some patients, the upper eyelid skin may be more prominent than they would expect after surgery because removing all of the extra skin would not allow you to close your upper eyelid. Additionally, some patients may have more or less of an upper eyelid crease. These are examples of the potential cons of eye lift surgery. However, most patients are thrilled with their eye lift results.

What Is Eye Lift Recovery Like?

When it comes to the pros and cons of eye lift surgery, recovery tends to be a con, because there is downtime. However, the downtime tends to be relatively painless and your surgery team will give you specific guidelines and instructions to make recovery as easy as possible.

  •  Immediately following your surgery you will wake up with a lubricating agent and cold compresses on your eyes. Sometimes loose gauze is applied.
  • The initial healing process will include some bruising and swelling. (These are both common with most facial surgeries)
  • Most patients will notice a dramatic reduction in swelling after the first 4 to 5 days. Although bruising will take longer to heal.
  • Some patients experience dry eyes, discomfort or irritation at the incision site. All of these are a normal part of the healing process and no cause for concern.  In the majority of cases, it is easily managed by applying cold compresses and taking pain medications.
  • Most patients return to their normal activities within 2 weeks of surgery after swelling and bruising have reduced revealing the surgery results.
  • As your body continues to heal over the next few months, your results will only improve as the contours of your face settle. You will quickly notice that although the results of this procedure are dramatic they are also extremely natural looking, which is another pro of eye lift surgery at Buckhead Plastic Surgery.

Even though you will be returning to most of your normal activities after the first 2 weeks, there are a  few exceptions like high impact sports or any activities that could specifically cause trauma to the face or eyes.

Pregnancy and giving birth are one of the most miraculous transformations in nature. However, the process can take quite a toll on a mother’s body. Becoming a mother is a transformative experience that can open the doors to new experiences and joys, and we want you to enjoy that experience fully. However, if you’re feeling less than your best because the body you see in the mirror doesn’t match how you feel inside, we are here to help.

What Is A Mom Makeover

A mom makeover is a set of cosmetic procedures specifically designed to restore or enhance your postpartum body. These procedures are highly customizable, so you can schedule just the services you need or an entire makeover if you like. Typical procedures that can be included in a mom makeover are a breast lift or enhancement which can restore breasts that may have lost their fullness after breastfeeding. Liposuction on the belly, flanks, or elsewhere removes stubborn pockets of fat that have developed during pregnancy or postpartum. A tummy tuck can remove excess skin that can sag around the midsection.

What do I need to know about this procedure?

The most important thing to know about a mom makeover is to have realistic expectations about what is possible in this procedure. Although cosmetic procedures can significantly improve your body’s contours, sometimes childbirth has fundamentally changed your body in ways that surgery cannot reverse. Your body is beautiful in every stage, and we are only here to enhance your natural beauty.

Second, we insist that you wait a minimum of 6 months, but we prefer you to wait a year after giving birth to schedule your mom makeover. Giving birth is traumatic for your body; it takes months to recover and fully adjust to a new reality. Giving your body the time and grace it needs to heal and adapt to one change at a time will significantly improve your results and recovery time from your mom makeover. It’s also important to note that the mom makeover procedure is not a weight-loss procedure. Although liposuction can be used to enhance the contours of your body, this surgery is not typically performed as a weight loss surgery. Therefore, if you have not yet reached your ideal weight, we recommend you postpone scheduling your surgery.

Third, be financially prepared. Based on the number of procedures and the extensiveness of the surgery, the costs can range from $15,000-$30,000. We want you to love the results of your procedures, and Dr. Larsen prides himself on precision surgery and the highest quality patient care. He and his team will work hard to provide you with the best care throughout your surgery and recovery process, but because this is a multistep procedure, the costs are higher than one procedure.

How Long Is Recovery?

This is a serious surgery that requires extensive recovery time. If you are considering a mom makeover, make sure to schedule it during a time when you have extra hands to help around the house and with the kids. The first two weeks post-surgery are critical. You’ll need to avoid lifting anything more significant than 5-10 pounds, and you will need to schedule 2-3 weeks off of work. If you opt to have breast surgery as part of your procedure, lifting and reaching will be very limited immediately following surgery, so things like laundry and cooking are impossible. Ask for extra help during this time as you recover. Your main priority needs to be healing, so take this time to rest and relax as much as possible while your body works hard to recover.

Am I A Good Candidate?

Ultimately you are the only one who can determine if plastic surgery is right for you. Many moms have felt an extreme boost in their body positivity, their self-esteem, and their body confidence after having this procedure. Ideal candidates for this procedure are not currently pregnant, are at least one-year postpartum, and are not currently breastfeeding. Ideal candidates have maintained their current weight for a year or more, are in good overall health, and are non–smokers.

What Do People Have To Say About This Procedure?

Mom makeovers are one of the most inquired about procedures in our practice. After giving birth, it’s normal to notice your body has changed, and it’s perfectly normal to want to exercise some control over what your see reflected in the mirror. Even when you lead a healthy lifestyle, you might feel like you don’t look like yourself after giving birth. Patients who undergo a mom makeover are typically pleased with their results. Many regret not scheduling their procedure earlier. If you think this procedure might be right for you, book a consultation with us today, we can answer all your questions and help you determine the best treatment possible to achieve your optimal results.

In this video, Double Board Plastic Surgeon, Alan N Larsen, MD updates his patients breasts with a remove & replace breast aug revision, and tightens up her mid section with a completely transforming body lift.

A mommy makeover is designed to rejuvenate the body and address the various changes experienced as a result of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr. Alan Larsen performs mommy makeover surgery on women ranging from 20 to 55. The procedure typically combines cosmetic breast surgery with a tummy tuck or body lift, and sometimes liposuction when needed.

In this Video…

Our patient, a mother of two, wanted to increase her breast size, and trade in her old firm saline implants for larger, silicone implants perfectly placed above the muscle, as suggested by Dr. Larsen, for a more natural look. Her original saline implants, size 325cc, were under the muscle, and started to feel firm under her arm. She chose to almost double her size with Allergan Natrelle silicone implants size 650 & 700.

At 5’1” and 130 pounds, our patient was also considering a tummy tuck to tighten the loose skin at her mid section. Upon examination, Dr. Larson recommended a body lift to address the skin laxity on her backside & flanks, helping her achieve a smooth hourglass contour. Unlike the tummy tuck procedure, which is performed in the front of the body, the body lift incision line is created in a complete circle all the way around the body, as you can see in the above surgery video.

During the procedure, Dr. Larsen creates an internal corset effect, when sewing up the abdominal muscles, by sitting his patient upright at a 90 degree angle, for the tightest possible body lift result.

Have you ever considered getting an Eyelift? Or perhaps you’re wondering what an eyelift surgery is? Eyelid lift surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty, is a procedure that can help restore a youthful appearance to the tissue surrounding the eye; providing you with a naturally youthful appearance or to refresh tired-looking, aging eyes.

An eyelid lift procedure is a highly individualized procedure that can smooth wrinkles, reduce the effect of puffiness, and correct sagging skin as well as other signs of aging around the upper and lower eyelids.

Eyelid surgery is complex because our eyelids are the home to the most delicate skin on our bodies. The skin around the eyes is thin, so it’s no surprise that this part of our face begins to show the signs of aging faster than most other areas.

When the skin around our eyes starts to show signs of aging, it can affect more than just our beauty. Facial expressions express emotion and when Why Patients Want An Eyeliftthe skin around your eyes is sagging or drooping it can make you look angry, sleepy, or unhappy even when you feel terrific.

Eyelift surgery is designed specifically to counteract the changes and restore your youthful appearance. The results can be dramatic and enhance your quality of life by helping you to feel more confident in your appearance. If others commonly perceive you as exhausted or upset, an eyelid lift can help you more accurately portray your emotions.

Alternatively, some patients consider an eyelift for more than only cosmetic reasons. For instance, if sagging skin around your eyes is obstructing your ability to see, eye lift surgery can eliminate this problem and even allow you to more fully open your eyes.

Eyelid lift surgery, also called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure used to enhance and improve the appearance of the eyelids. An eyelid lift can be highly personalized to your unique physical attributes and can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both.

Whether you’re wanting to improve the youthful appearance of your eyes or you are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, an eyelid lift can be the solution.

What eyelid surgery can treat

Eyelid surgery can correct issues such as loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disrupt the natural contours of the face around the upper eyelid which can sometimes impair vision. It can correct fatty deposits that appear as puffiness around and under the eyes. As well as reducing the effect of bags under the eyes and drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris. And correct issues including excess skin which can sag, and fine lines and wrinkles of the lower eyelid.

What are the types of eye lifts?

There are two types of eye lifts, upper and lower. Often these procedures are combined or done along with other procedures like facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts or even non-surgical treatments like a liquid lift which includes filler

and botox. If you are not sure which procedure (or procedures) would be best for your optimal results, we encourage you to call us today to book your consultation. Dr. Larsen and his team will examine the areas you’d like to improve and present you with the best options for your optimal results.

Eyelid lift surgery can encompass many surgical techniques. With over 20 years of surgical experience, Dr. Larsen will carefully choose the techniques that are best for your anatomy and the specific changes you’d like to achieve to reach your optimal results.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

If you feel like your eyes always look exhausted even when you are rested, or you appear unhappy, or less alert than you feel. If your upper eyelids lack contour, appear hooded, or obscure your upper eyelashes. Often sagging or wrinkled skin on the upper eyelids can cause this unfortunate appearance and upper eyelid surgery will remove the excess skin and restore your youthful-looking appearance. Restoring the shape to your eyelids and giving you the appearance of more open, refreshed eyes can greatly improve your confidence when you look in the mirror.

Upper Eyelid Surgery is specific to each patient but typically involves an incision made along the natural crease above the eye. Through this small incision, Dr. Larsen will remove excess skin and fatty tissue, sometimes it is necessary to adjust the surrounding muscles to achieve your optimal results.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

If you have puffy or sagging tissue under your eyes that make you appear like you haven’t slept well, you might consider lower eyelid surgery. This condition is likely due to herniated fat that can collect beneath the eyes. Unfortunately, this condition can become more pronounced over time as the skin loses elasticity. However, puffy lower lids can begin to affect patients in their 20s, causing them to look older than they are.

Lower eyelid surgery can correct these issues. Just like with upper eye surgery, there are various techniques that surgeons can use to improve this area. Dr. Larsen will choose the best techniques for your specific issues. Typically, in lower eyelid surgery, incisions are located on the outer edge of the lower eyelid, usually just beneath the eyelashes or inside of the eyelid.

Through these minute and delicate incisions, Dr. Larsen will remove or reposition fatty tissue to create a better contour beneath the eyelid. If needed, excess sagging skin may be removed and occasionally the lower eyelid muscles are tightened to provide the most natural-looking results.

Upper & Lower Eyelid Surgery

Buckhead Plastic Surgery, explains why patients want an eyelid lift surgery aka a blepharoplasty, to help refresh tired-looking eyes.

Eyelift by Alan N Larsen, MD at Buckhead Plastic Surgery

Combining Eyelid Surgery with Another Procedure

It’s common for patients to want to address aging in a few different areas. While eyelid surgery by itself can significantly improve the youthfulness of your appearance and rejuvenate the appearance of your entire face, most patients choose to combine this procedure with other services to maximize their results.

Eyelift surgery is often combined with a facelift or brow lift, both performed in conjunction with an eyelid lift. The result is a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Brow Lifts can address sagging skin and deep furrows above the eyes, while facelifts can address sagging, skin, and wrinkles on the cheeks and neck

Perhaps you’re interested in eyelid surgery and don’t require a procedure as extensive as a facelift but would, like an impression of rejuvenation, consider asking our team about a Liquid Lift. This non-surgical option can be paired with an eyelid lift to provide a comprehensive facial improvement without extended surgical recovery time.
