Thinning hair and hair loss is a cosmetic frustration for both men and women. Studies show 50 million men and 30 million women suffer from thinning hair and baldness. Further, research suggests that nearly 50 percent of all men will experience some degree of hair loss or baldness by the time they reach their 50s.
Losing hair can be all-consuming and wreak havoc on self-esteem and self-confidence in every aspect of life. It can be hard to identify the underlying reason, so there is no immediate solution, which only increases feelings of stress and anxiety. If you are seeking a solution to your hair loss or thinning hair, you are not alone.
At LUX Med Spa, we are proud to offer PRP Hair Restoration, so our patients can ease their minds about hair loss concerns and enjoy renewed confidence in their appearance.

What causes hair loss?
People suffer from hair loss or thinning hair for various reasons, including stress, hormonal fluctuations, genetics, natural aging, or even accidents. Some people experience hair loss or increased shedding after major surgeries or traumatic life events. Illnesses and vitamin and nutrient deficiencies can also contribute to hair loss.

In men, male pattern baldness is a common reason for hair loss. It is the result of genetics or a family history of baldness. It is also known as androgenetic alopecia. This type of hair loss is defined by the pattern of hair thinning and loss that starts above the temples and thins out near the top of the head.
Although women do not typically go completely bald, they can experience thinning, brittle hair that breaks easily and sheds more than usual. For example, after pregnancy or menopause, women may notice more shedding or thinning hair due to shifts in hormones. In women, triggers can also be from things like thyroid problems or other imbalances in the body that occur as we age.
What does hair restoration mean?
Today, the term “hair restoration” has become a catch-all for any and all types of procedures that can restore hair fullness and ease the look of thinning hair. From surgical hair transplants to less-invasive follicular unit extraction (FUE) to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to prescription medications and topical treatments.
The old hair transplant methods harvest hair from donor areas and transplant it into the areas where hair is thinning. While effective, this method is not the only available option to combat baldness nowadays thanks to advances in hair loss treatment technology. Today services like PRP Hair Restoration are not only non-surgical, but the results are natural looking and can last for 18-24 months with a few annual maintenance sessions.
What is PRP Hair Restoration?
PRP hair restoration is a safe, effective, non-surgical medical treatment that treats thinning hair using the growth factors in a person’s own blood to help restore hair. The organic growth factors that exist in your blood are called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and it is the liquid that moves red blood cells through the body.
The body naturally triggers the hair growth process by increasing the blood supply to the hair follicle and nourishing it with PRP. Within two weeks of the treatment, there is usually enhanced thickness at the hair shaft. About three to six months after the initial treatment, measurable results are more visible, and hair growth continues. PRP is a highly effective treatment for hair loss, and our PRP hair restoration clients at LUX are thrilled with their results.
Frequently Asked Questions About PRP Hair Restoration
After blood is drawn from your arm by a licensed practitioner, it is placed in a centrifuge machine to prepare the PRP. The centrifuge works by using centrifugal force to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. When the liquid is removed from the machine, the activated platelets (PRP) are then injected into areas of your scalp.
The injected plasma stimulates your body’s natural reparative cells and wakes up dormant hair follicles. When the hair’s roots are stimulated in this targeted fashion, the amount of hair increases, and so does the thickness of the hair.
There is minimal downtime after a PRP Hair Restoration session which is one of the reasons it is such a popular hair loss treatment. Recovery guidelines include not wetting your hair or using hair products for at least 6 hours after a session, using a pH-balanced shampoo for three days, avoiding saunas, steam rooms, swimming, vigorous exercise, and sun or heat exposure for a few days to ensure lasting results.
Most men and women are good candidates for PRP Hair Restoration as it is a non-invasive procedure aside from having blood drawn to obtain the PRP. During your initial consultation, you must disclose all your medications, including supplements and herbs.
Since blood is drawn during the procedure, patients on blood thinners like Plavix, Coumadin, and Heparin and or those with bleeding disorders, or heavy smokers are not ideal candidates for PRP. During your initial consultation, you must disclose all your medications, including supplements and herbs.
