You will likely wake up after your surgery with a weightless, foam bandage in place to keep swelling to a minimum. The most discomfort is felt immediately following surgery. You have the option to return home or enjoy full-service care at Chastain Surgery Center. Let us pamper you and closely monitor all your medical needs while you rest. We have found that giving our patients extra care and attention allows them to better relax and focus on resting while their body begins the healing process. By the time you leave, you’ll be much more comfortable and able to care for yourself easier in the comfort of your own home.

Our highly experienced staff will ensure that you understand the proper follow up steps to expedite the healing process at home. Swelling and bruising are to be expected. If you experience any pain following the surgery it usually resolves to a mild discomfort over the first 24-48 hours. Most patients report feeling tightness or a pulling sensation across the neck. This is common and to be expected as your body heals from your neck lift.

Dr. Larsen will send you home with specific instructions for caring for your incisions and directions for temporary lifestyle adjustments to aid in healing. For example, you will be instructed to sleep on your back at an incline for the first 7-14 days.

What are the steps of a neck lift?

Neck lift surgeries are performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about 2 hours to complete. Typically a neck lift involves a series of small incisions starting about halfway up the ear and running down around the earlobes and into the hairline; Another small incision is placed under the chin. Using these two incisions, the skin can be elevated, the fat removed, the underlying muscles tightened, and the excess skin trimmed and tightened. Dr. Larsen is very intentional about the placement of the incisions. His goal is always to provide you with the maximum result and minimal visible scarring.

After the incisions are made fat is removed or sculpted for a more flattering contour. Often the platysma muscle is tightened and the tissue on your neck is repositioned. Your skin is draped over the new contours of your neck and any excess skin is removed before closing the incisions.
